"A last.fm for people instead of music"...

...That’s how the developers of a new social networking mobile technology describe Imity. The application allows for social networking on the go by utilizing Bluetooth technology. Users receive a list of other individuals in close proximity whose phones are also Bluetooth-enabled and can engage in a variety of interactive processes. They can bookmark notable people, add details to an individual’s profile in order to remember them for future encounters, and can engage in live instant-messaging. Consumers can also add a plugin to their MySpace profiles to provide details about themselves and allow others to bookmark, text, or meet them if they are close-by. Data is also transmitted to the web so users can add information to and review profiles of those they’ve met. The service could eventually present further opportunity to enhance mobile grassroots marketing efforts such as the recent video moblogging effort by Warner Brothers Records & ShoZu. Imity was recently presented at the Where2.0 conference and is currently in beta.
